Translation Notes
Several versions of this particular song exist in the wild, including a 1971 version sung by 方晴 under another title: 難忘初戀的情人, which featured slightly modified lyrics (the first two sentences of the two verses have been changed).
Extensively covered, this was followed by another rendition in 1979 by 邓丽君 (Teresa Teng). However, this version by 尤雅 is the earliest of the most popular version.
In the last line of each verse, the phrase 海枯石爛 translates to “(when) the seas have dried and stones have decayed (into soil)”. An idiom meaning “forever” or “until the end of time”, the latter of which was selected as the translation.
